Ban on Whatsapp Calling in Saudi Arabia Lifted

 

Expats in Saudi Arabia rejoice as it seems the ban on Whatsapp calling has been removed.

Although Whatsapp calling feature came out in first quarter of 2015, the Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) had not allowed the calling feature till yesterday (7th February, 2016).

Then out of the blue yesterday, we started getting calls on our Whatsapp. It was wonderful. I tried few relative and friends. The call was going through and I was able to talk to some of them. However, many a times, the call was getting dropped. I guess the server was not ready for such traffic.

However, it seems there has been no official confirmation from CITC about the lifting the ban.
