End of Sponsorship System: Qatar takes lead; Is Saudi Arabia Next ?

Qatar has announced in a press conference in Doha that it will abolish the sponsorship system. The system will be replaced by labor contract system.

Also, the employers will not be allowed to keep the passports of the worker. Anyone found doing do will be penalized 50,000 Qatari riyals which is equivalent to SAR 51,500.

Those who wish to go on Exit, have apply to Ministry of Interior directly and will be given permission by automated system after 72 hours.

Expatriates can change their job at the end of their contract without the permission of their current employer.

The sponsorship system is already abolished in Bahrain and with this new announcement in Qatar, and the ongoing labor reforms in Saudi Arabia, expatriate are looking for a hopeful future.
