This is one thing we pray never happens to anyone in Saudi Arabia – losing your Iqama (work permit). Getting a new one is difficult and at times frustrating in addition to the SR 1,000 penalty for losing it.
We advise all fellow expatriate to be extremely careful in keep this one document safe. In addition, keep a few photocopies of Iqama in different places like wallet, car, home and office. And if you are traveling, keep a copy in your suitcase. Now a days you keep a snap shot of
Now, inspite of all the precautions, God forbid, you lose your Iqama.
The first thing you need to do is report the loss to your company and then to the police station. If you do not speak Arabic well, it is advisable to take your company’s HR person along with you to the police station to file the report.
Once you get this police report, you needed to put an advertisement in the newspaper and wait for one month. However, now a days, many people have reported that this requirement has been dropped.
After this, you will have to submit the following documents to Jawazat (Passports Office):
- Copy of iqama
- Copy of Passport
- Original Passport
- Two passport size photos
- Lost iqama form available from Jawazat (Passport office)
- Police report
- Payment of fine – SR 1000 & iqama fee – SR 500 through SADAD
All this has to be submitted to by your company HR to Jawazat.
Also ensure that you fingerprintig is done and that you do not have any traffic violations at the time of application for new iqama.
Now a days you should get the new iqama within a week. The validity of the new iqama will be same as the previous one.
It may be possible that with coming of Abshir, this process may have changed slightly.
Also, it advisable to carry a letter from your company stating loss of your iqama and copy of police report till you get your new iqama.
Kindly note there is penalty of SR 1,000 for not carrying iqama (see Where is your iqama ) so try to get your new iqama as soon as possible and try to avoid unnecessary trips outside the house.
